How does NINA REIN produce? The design phase
Have you always wanted to know how the production of the NINA REIN collections takes place? Are you curious about which steps and decisions influence the process? Then we are happy to give you an insight with this article.
Production at NINA REIN consists of 4 phases. You can read the process of the first phase here:
First, in the design phase, initial ideas about trends, colors, shapes, moods, etc. are collected. Fabric fairs are a great source of inspiration. These fairs mainly take place in September or January and are ideal for exchanging ideas, gaining insights into upcoming fashion and fabric trends, and general (visual) support for your own ideas. In recent months, these fairs, like so many other things, have unfortunately only taken place virtually.
The best and most common ideas, however, arise spontaneously, depending on what Julia, our designer, sees that is beautiful . This process can take place anywhere, for example while hiking, watching TV, or even at the Chat with the neighbors .
This is followed by the wild creation of fashion sketches, Colors are combined and then discarded again. Hand sketches lie on the floor, various materials, various color snippets and tabs - a creative chaos ! This is important to incorporate all inspirations and only then to organize. Because after creative brainstorming is sorted out and planned, which articles into the collection be recorded, how many skirts , dresses, pants, tops and which colors for these articles are suitable . This is the beginning of the collection creation.
In the next step, the technical details of these items are defined. Worksheets are created for these, in which more precise details must be specified, unlike in the previous step. In this worksheet document everything Necessary entered what the article needs to become a finished garment. Which material , which Mass and most importantly: the A technical sketch is also included to show how the piece should look. The item number and the color are also given, as well as all the ingredients. Ingredients is the fashion term for small extra parts such as buttons and sewing thread .
Similar a cooking recipe or a furniture assembly manual , all information must be meticulously summarized so that the pattern maker (there are also pattern makers, but they work with a female pattern maker) and later the seamstress (there are also male colleagues) can work with this worksheet . The worksheet is used for communication between the designer (Julia), the pattern maker and the seamstress. Everyone works together to optimize the fit and design of the garments so that our customers not only like them later, but also fit well and are comfortable!
This first phase required approximately 3-4 weeks. Sure, some parts are designed faster, some slower. It all depends on how complicated and complex an individual article is. A T-shirt has 3-4 details, a blazer up to 20 pieces of information , which are coordinated with each other.
Exciting? Totally. And much more technical than most people imagine when they think about design.
The next article is about the screening phase and what it means holding a sample piece in your hands.
